How to join

Membership of Markwick Gardens is open to all who wish to enjoy this special place. Numbers are limited and we are currently full, but you are welcome to join our waiting list.

Markwick Gardens is a beautiful subscription garden originally laid out in 1860 for the enjoyment of neighbouring residents. Today, it is a green oasis in the heart of a thriving community, bounded by Markwick Terrace, Dane Road, Brittany Road and Charles Road.

The Gardens are managed by the Markwick Gardens Association, which is run by a team of volunteers, ensuring that the membership fee is kept as low as possible. The stated object of the Association is “the upkeep, care and maintenance of the Markwick Gardens for the benefit and enjoyment of all members and their subscription shall be used for that purpose.” In other words, the Association is a non-profit organisation, and all funds raised through the membership fee go solely to looking after this special place.

Membership is “open to all those persons interested in the upkeep of the Gardens who are acceptable to the Association.” The 2024/25 annual subscription is £70 for couples and families, or a discounted £60 for individuals.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome, but they must be assessed by a Committee member and registered. The subscription fee is £10 per dog per year. Note that professional dog walkers using the park need to be members, and each dog needs to be registered.

The membership year runs from 1 April to 31 March of the following year. On joining there is a one-off gate lock fee of £15, which is non-refundable. All new and renewing members must acknowledge that they have read and agree to abide by the latest Markwick Gardens Association Rules, as do any and all others included in their subscription.

If you are an existing member and would like to renew your membership for 2024/25, please contact Sue, our membership secretary, directly.
